Indonesian endeavors to unite diversity are still experiencing many obstacles. Soeripto (Republika, 2017: 9) argues that there are some potentials of national disintegration predicted to escalate in 2018. President Joko Widodo in Indonesian Radio News Agency (2017) stated that nationalism and patriotism to defend the nation from any forms of threat should be nurtured since early stage. In addition, any efforts to prevent the nation from disintegration are expected to be comprehensive, and schools near and at the borderlines should become Indonesian government’s priority in solving the issue of disintegration. One way to strengthen the patriotism is through literature.
In line with the background of the problem, it is argued that there should be attempts to prevent national disintegration at schools in the frontiers of Indonesia. Indonesia Bersastra (Indonesia Literary Movement) program is proposed to be an alternative introduced to schools at the borders to prevent Indonesia from disintegration. It is expected that this program will: unite Indonesia; support the President's agenda of Character Revolution Nawa Cita; and carry out Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions as one of Sustainable Development Goals.
The statements of the problem in this paper are: (1) what are the specifications of the program of strengthening patriotism through literature at Indonesia's borderline, remote, and underdeveloped areas? and (2) what are the strategies to implement the planned program of Indonesia Literary Movement?
There are two main points proposed in the analysis and synthesis of this paper. First, the program of Indonesia Literary Movement is an alternative attempt to prevent the nation from disintegration which is introduced to schools in the state borders. This program is expectedly followed by celebrities (specifically writers) and Indonesian young literary volunteers. These young literary volunteers will invite Indonesian students in the border areas to realize the vision of national unification through literature.
In order to achieve the goals, Indonesia Literary Movement program comprises some agenda, such as (1) celebrities go to school, (2) reading corner, (3) literary talk, (4) literary production, (5) literary performance, and (6) jamboree of literature. The targets of this program are elementary and secondary – junior and senior – school students at the border areas.
Second, the implementation strategies of Indonesia Literary Movement as an alternative to prevent Indonesia from disintegration are through: (1) vision and mission setup, (2) pedagogical analysis of Indonesia Literary Movement program, (3) SWOT-based alternative strategy formulation, and (4) program risk-management.
Based on the analysis and synthesis, there are two points to conclude from this paper; they are (1) Indonesia Literary Movement is a program to strengthen the character of patriotism and a supporting program to Character Revolution Nawa Cita. There are six agenda of Indonesia Literary Movement program, and (2) there are some strategies of Indonesia Literary Movement program development.
There are also some recommendations addressed to the government, Indonesian youths, and society in the border areas. For the government, this program can be employed to anticipate the disintegration of the nation starting from schools in the frontiers. It may provide new alternative to or collaborate with the existing programs in order to carry out the Character Revolution, Nawa Cita, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions as one of Sustainable Development Goals. For the Indonesian youth, it is expected that this paper may inspire them to participate in the Indonesia Literary Movement program. (3) For the society at the border areas, this paper can act as a material of Indonesia Literary Movement early socialization.   Key words: Literature, Character education, Nation disintegration, schools at borderlines, Indonesia Literary Movement.
